M3 ("M cubed") is a series of after-school enrichment programs are taught by teachers and community members. Classes are held Monday-Friday immediately after school during three six-week sessions throughout the year. The classes offered depend on the available teachers, but range from reading groups, cupcake decorating, fun with Legos, active sports, fencing and more! The PTO makes these low cost to families and provides scholarships for up to two classes per student.
M3 Spotlight: MIMA Band Together We are thrilled this year to offer MIMA Band Together as part of our M3 enrichment program! MIMA Music is a 501c3 music education nonprofit co-founded in 2000 by Murray parent Adam Nemett--father of Jack (3rd grade) and Rose (K). MIMA's "Band Together" program teaches basic musical concepts while encouraging creativity, confidence and collaboration through the group creation of original songs. Using the MIMA Method, students produce their own rhythms, melodies and lyrics, stitch these ideas into original compositions, and create studio recordings, music videos and live performances of their work. No instruments or musical experience necessary. Please contact Adam with any questions: adam@mimamusic.org Check out MIMA Band Together in action:
MIMA has operated in 40 countries, and in diverse local host institutions including the Music Resource Center, Elk Hill Schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, Innisfree Village, Murray High School, Friendship Court, and the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind."
MIMA trains and compensates all its teachers (no extensive musical experience required, just enthusiasm!) and we'd love to train some Murray parents! Info on our next local training, scheduled for Sunday, October 2, can be found here: https://www.mimamusic.org/events
Interested in volunteering with M3? This program takes a lot of volunteers to support students and teachers during the three six week sessions this school year. We need volunteer support in the following areas:
After school volunteers are needed each day to check in students and assist them getting to M3 classes. This is a small time commitment of 2:20-2:50, one day per week.
Teaching support is needed to lead classes or assist teachers that request teaching support.
Click here to fill out a volunteer interest form. All volunteers who will be interacting with students must also complete the Albemarle County Student Safety Volunteer Application.
Interesting in Teaching a class? These are paid classes. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out!
