Attendance:

Mrs. Ellen Patterson, Teacher Representative
Julie Bowersett, President
Bridget Donaldson, Vice President
Erin Tracey, Secretary
Allie Hill, Teller Stalfort, Candice Love, Becky Lapensee Hughes
1:36 pm - Meeting called to order by Julie Bowersett.
Principal’s Report
Morning Drop Off Traffic Pattern - Mr. Green has been communicating with the Albemarle County Public Schools transportation department regarding possible solutions for safer traffic flow during morning drop off.
Approval of October Minutes
Candice Love motioned to approve the October PTO minutes. Allie Hill seconded. The minutes were approved.
Committee Reports
Miscellaneous – The PTO now has a Facebook page. Thanks to Becca Gibson for creating it!
Box Tops – We are slightly behind our Box Tops goal. Teller continues to encourage collections via Murray Matters and backpack fliers.
Bingo Night will be March 2.
Book Fair – We have not received sales results from Scholastic yet. A new chair is needed to take over next year.
Cultural Enrichment – The Hullabahoos are scheduled to perform December 8. Families may attend.
Landscaping – Shannon Mueller and other volunteers cleared and spruced up the outdoor classroom at the last Garden Day. The sandbox (upper playground) is in poor condition. Shannon is getting estimates for improvements.
Helping Hands – Student members put down landscape cloth and are mulching over it under the windows in the courtyard area.
Literary Magazine (The Luminary) – The chair has posted the first call for submissions to be published this spring.
M3 – The next session begins at the end of January.
Parent Council – The council discussed the 2018-19 school budget, which is affected by large increases in health insurance and retirement costs, and bond referendum updates.
Party Parade – The Oktoberfest party made $1360—thank you to the Foster and Love families for hosting! Wreath Making is the next event. The committee has found a host for a Family BBQ in the spring.
School Directory – everyone appreciated that the directory came out earlier this school year. Thanks to Sonnia Kesser for creating it!
New Business
Special Grants – no grants were requested this month. Raphael Davis noted that Special Grants funds will increase by approximately $913 once the return of some Apple products is processed. He is returning the products to Amazon because ACPS requires that VLM purchase them through ACPS.
Treasurer’s Report – Raphael presented the PTO Treasury Update (November 2017). The Fall Fund drive has collected $10,825 to date, with an additional $1600 expected from company matching. The goal is $16,000.
Meeting adjourned at 2:17 pm.
