At this week’s PTO meeting, Mr. Green announced that he will be applying to a county program that would add foreign language curriculum to Murray in upcoming years. French and Spanish are the two languages being considered; with several French-speaking teachers on staff, that is the more likely, though both are still possibilities. The county is adding additional schools to the program each year; our neighboring school, Meriwether Lewis is currently offering French. Although the program, which would phase in with kindergarten and first grade classes, adding additional grades each year, will not begin for a couple of years, Mr. Green is interested in hearing what parents think of the idea.
Also at the PTO meeting, a motion was approved to help fund the 5th grade end-of-the-year field trip to Virginia Beach. The PTO will contribute 1/3 of the total cost of the trip in matching funds each year. This is something that will eventually benefit all Murray students who attend through 5th grade and reduces the fund raising burden on the parents.
Even though there will be no school for our kids on Friday, October 27, the teachers will be hard at work. Our Hospitality Committee has planned a luncheon for the teachers that day, and they need our help to provide the various lunch offerings. If you are able to help, please click on the following link to sign up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b44aaa82fa64-fall1 and let’s show our great staff some love. (Also consider donating K cups for the school Keurig machines.)
